Friends of the Rubicon Schedule August Trail Work
The Friends of the Rubicon are starting to line up work detail, jobs, and coordination for an August work weekend. Volunteers are requested to sign-up in advance at the California Jeeper web site. It is important that everyone attending be registered.
Trail Boss Del Abright is looking for volunteers to provide the following items. If you can provide them, use the registration form on the California Jeeper web site so planners can prepare before arriving on site. Del's list is:
- Heavy equipment - back hoes, loaders, Kubota type tractors (three needed; the County will have one).
- Wheelbarrows - several are needed.
- Tables - a few folding tables for the briefing area and check in station.
- Handheld CB's - a half dozen or so to hand out and use. (Oh, and I'm from the government, so you can trust me that you'll get them back.)
- 4x8 plywood sheet - someone who has a way to bring up a sheet of plywood (old is fine) that you'll get back. We want to post maps and stuff on it in the briefing area. Actually two sheets would be nice, but one will work.
- Utility trailers - when you sign up indicate you are bringing one that can be used to haul rock. Bed liner or floorboard protection recommended if you don't want a scratched trailer bed. They will be loaded by hand and by tractor (dump bucket).
- Trail medics - is anyone an EMT or paramedic or even a good first responder with a great first aid kit to act as our trail medic?
- A couple folks available for "incident responce" if needed. 4WD rig needed so you can be independently mobile.
- Trail mechanics - Need a couple rigs, with about 4 guys to act as portable mechanics in case we break something. We plan to have an air up, minor repair site at the Staging Area; as well as mobile mechanics. A welder, air compressor, tools, and some basic fixit stuff (duct tape, bailing wire; you know the routine) are required. A utility trailer would be nice too, as would be a winch/tow set up. Hopefully, this would be a boring job, but if not, we need you standing by. I'd like a good air compressor
- Shade tents - Need a few of those beach type or bigger, shade tents, easy ups or whatever, that can be used for the briefing area, cooking area, and check in tables. Anybody got one or more they can bring?
- T-shirts - got someone looking into this.
- FOTR stickers - I don't think anyone has figured out a way to make stickers yet? Have you?
Del plans to pull up all your sign up sheets and begin matching this list above with what you said in your sign up sheet ans assigning jobs and locations very soon. You'll show up basically knowing who you're working for, what your job is, and how things are coming down
LET DEL KNOW HOW MANY OF YOUR CLUB MEMBERS ARE COMING. If you bring a few fellow club members, but they haven't signed up with the online sign up sheet, please make sure Del and the FOTR planners know the expected number. Truthfully, it'd be a lot better if they filled out a sheet (for each person that is coming) so as to know exactly who's coming and what they're bringing. The sooner the better too.
